A True Gentleman
To those of you who may not know, I lost my grandfather, Leslie, at the end of April. He would have been 83 on May 7th. He was a sweet and gentle man who made the best zucchini bread with ingredients from his garden, always called me “honey” and kissed me hello and goodbye, never forgetting to say “I love you,” enjoyed taking trips to the casino, was an adamant Cubs fan, and most of all was a devoted husband and family man. He was married to my grandmother (another Sally) for 62 years and I have always looked at them as being two people truly in love who never lost their spark for one another and who were each other’s best friends. Theirs was a great model of marriage.
My mother (Sally Lou) found some of these gorgeous old photos of my grandpa and I thought I would share them with all of you for Father’s Day. The wedding photo of him with my grandma is from 1948! I just love their expressions while getting pelted with rice! I must also point out my grandma’s amazing velvet hat and satin wrap dress! They are so young and yet to me they look the same as I always remember them together.
